the schools fine it's not amazing but it does offer alot of subjects and the teachers are nice. but the building dfs ings especially drama need to be fixed for at least painted and have proper curtains or blinds on the windows. it is better than other schools
The food served at the canteen looks spoiled, the girls are very mean and the music they put on the speakers for benowa on the green is very inappropriate. The teachers aren't reliable and when you ask for a permission note for camp ECT you will receive it in about two weeks when the note is only in thier office. Overall I don't think thus school is great apart from ice skating
i’ve been to 3 high schools so far, benowa was the worst, the teachers are horrible (apart from that one history and geography teacher) the student are horrible, if you’re apart of the lgbt+ community, you will get backlash
As a student here, the school have made myself and others i know feel not safe there due to many fights and incidents that occur almost everyday. Personally i’d find a better school but the teachers here are great.
Is Benowa High a good school for autistic students?
Benowa state high is a great school, teachers are generally supportive and there is a fantastic access education centre for special needs/struggling students where assistant staff do the absolute most to support individual students. Students are relatively friendly and there are a fairly wide variety of selective subjects to choose from. There are instances of bullying but I wouldn’t say it is exceptionally different from other schools.
This school is majorly underfunded however and platforms for online learning have had to be switched to cheaper and comparatively worse ones. Students are not pressured much and students learn however much they want to. It is possible to be very academic in this school however the drive behind this has to come from the student themselves. A fair amount of students in classes do not try and nothing is really done about this.
School can be scary for new students and navigating busy pathways can be very overstimulating but if you come down to the access centre, you can always find some help or a friend to walk you to your class. This school is adaptive with letting students out 5 minutes early in order to avoid crowds and get to their next class comfortably. As an autistic year 12 at this school I would say this is one of the best on the coast for students with autism.
I have received accomodations such as being allowed to wear headphones and noise cancelling in class (provided I do the work) and I have teachers aids to support me during class and at breaks, although this has become less necessary as I’ve gotten more confident!
I would rate it perfect but funding is a rather large issue and there have been a couple encounters with a malicious sports teacher/coach.
