I'm am so Disgusted with this school. As a Parent myself This school is not safe for my child.
The bullying with this place is so Awwful and disgusting.
The school uniforms quality is not worth buying as the price is too expensive. The School makes out that it's made out of gold.
Never sending my child to this school ever again.
The school is so amazing as the students get to experience fights in the middle of the day almost every day making wonderful memories. The bullying from the school is also a 10/10 not gonna lie as they do a wonderful work at making other students never wanting to come back to school as they have almost taken there lives because of it. Most of teachers are funny and entertaining but if you want to report about being bullied the school never do anything about it. Students in this school mostly vape, set the school toilets on fire, breaking school property, drinking, drugs, skipping class and harassment.
This place is not safe for any school student as a kid mostly influence them to do bad stuff aswell. The uniform from the school is absolutely atrocious as its way to expensive, I wouldn't even dress my nightmare in it.
Respect: very horrible as they have no respect for others or equipment.
Responsibility: the school doesn't provide any responsibility over anything as they put zero effort into what they do
Unity: no one gets long as they only result to bullying.
Discovery: you only discover how crap the school is.
Well done Bribie Island State High School at being the world's most horrible school.
All important things have been mentioned in other reviews. All I can say is that a bathroom was lit on fire, we had a teacher arrested for CP, the bully-report app recommended to us (Stymie) often never attempted to resolve any bullying situations, sometimes there would be up to three fights per day, the school administration needed to keep reminding students not to vape on school groups or in school uniform, and a bunch of other issues including pranks of toilet paper being rolled around trees and students taping their friends to poles. Some teachers seem to transfer away from our school, however we've also had teachers who've taught us for decades. The education was great, however as mentioned due to school administration or teaching issues, grade potentials were limited. A 99.95 ATAR is impossible at this school, however the involvement of academic academics also encourages specific groups of students to work harder to achieve higher grades. While delicious food and meals were provided at the school canteen/tuckshop, I never saw healthy options available that did not involve ordering online. Final note: there were approximately 240~ students in our cohort in grade 7. There was less than 150~ when we graduated. I felt like there were many systems put in place like 'Stymie', 'Academics academy', and healthy food options for online orders to fabricate the reality of the school to parents.
Teachers: I was an ATAR student so I was in the ATAR-classes, so I had relatively good teachers in treatment and learning. However I heard from friends taking applied classes that the teachers treated them poorly because they were seen as ‘stupid’. I feel like half the school is a toxic academic atmosphere and the other half is not caring about students engaging in drugs, wagging, etc. It is strange. What I will say is that I felt I experienced excluded and somewhat bullied by three teachers during my high school journey (because I was a quiet kid) — two maths teachers (probably transferred) and a health teacher. I was also told *after* I chose Health that ‘apparently’ BISHS isn’t ‘good’ at teaching Health. BRUH. They just accept they’re bad. This jeopardised my grade — don’t choose Health. However shout out to Mrs. Sanderson and the transferred ginger business teacher I don’t remember the name of. He was cool and treated me well/believed in me. Strange that so many teachers transfer. What I will say is we used to have a horrible principal who would ridicule/shame our school community, compare us to other school communities, and proceed to belittle us. Luckily she transferred, but she was responsible for removing all sports from our school (seen as excelled at sports at the time), all arts except music because it made money, etc.
Subject Selection: When I had to choose subjects for my senior years, subject selection was extremely limited compared to other schools. I wanted to take General Business, General Digital Solutions, Legal Studies, etc. (Some were turned into certificates but I’d like a larger contribution towards my ATAR). Due to the toxic academic atmosphere enforced by the principal at the time, our options (excluding cores like English and Maths) only really included sciences and SOSE with the few exceptions. Would’ve moved schools if I didn’t have friends, but I still managed well… just wanted to take my passions. Also this school is extremely strong on taking the ATAR route. Speaking of subjects, we had a mandatory subject dedicated to learning life skills which I think is great for students… however my teacher never taught us the content since we weren’t assessed on it and told us to just chat with each other. I could’ve learnt about taxes… bruh. We also used to have ‘Passion Project’, a class slot for basically joining a club. It was great until it was removed due to wagging, but as I was a student leader who had to basically attend meetings/help with projects at that time my responsibilities were also removed.
Community: Every-time I entered the female bathrooms, I’d see a group of 5-10 people vaping. Apparently this year there’s some OnlyFans shrine in the male bathroom. Gotta love the school community. I was helping prepare for open day and some student tore an entire bubbler down with wires hanging out. Vandalism isn’t very rare at this school; on some sports day apparently a group of students the night before broke into the student centre (breaking the glass), and smudged faeces all over the administration office building. This rumour was confirmed by teachers. My year level was quite judgemental, spreading rumours and gossiping, and I feel bad for those who were subject to ridicule. I noticed students who came from the opposing primary school fuelled a lot of this… not naming school names here.
Additional info: Yeah, uniforms are expensive — $50~ for jacket, $90~ for jersey, etc. Q block is cool. They have a landfill bin and recycling bin set in each classroom but apparently they all go into landfill anyway. They brag about having a cafe but only open it on Awards Night. In grade 7 my class was wild and my classmate would jump from desk to desk and he broke my glasses (at least he apologised). Eventually I moved to Academic classes. Education seems pretty good (kinda) but the community is a mess. Thanks for watching my Ted Talk.
The cost of school clothes are awful. How they manage bad behaviour when it comes to bullying is terrible. Although alot of the teaches are good, some are amazing. Some are terrible. But majority are good.
