Home based student review: Okay-ish school. Pretty average. Some staff are nice unfortunately, some of them are the rudest idiots you'll ever come across.
Absolutely terrible at offering assistance. No one calls you back or replies to emails. School nurse did not email me back which I thought was extremely rude. They make tons of mistakes and haven't even bothered to put my correct subjects into myQCE.
Online classes are great for the challenges that come with distance learning. However, it definitely fails to be a good enough substitute for a face-to-face education (besides maths. That's fine). Teachers even seem frustrated with the difficulties of the online environment. Regardless, they do try their best (most of the staff).
Utter garbage socially (this isn't their fault and an obvious side effect). DO NOT make your child do home based learning if you cannot socialise them besides school. They will develop loneliness (personal experience).
Positive: physically pretty school, you can wear what you like. Offers social events for students who live close to BrisbaneSDE. Otherwise, could be better.
Many students choose BSDE for a variety of reasons, whether you play serious sport and need extra practice time, you have social anxiety, or just don't fit in a face-to-face school, it's an amazing option.
It is very cheap compared to the term cost of other schools. (though you need to supply your own computer/ PC, headset W mic, and school supplies) students are cared for by most teachers and needs are well met. I am in year 11 this year and I have been here since the start of year 9. Three years have been great! BSDE offers a massive scope of elective subjects. Everyone is bound to find something to their liking. One personal down side is that I don't have a home supervisor with me during the day, as my parents work, so I'm left to my own devices, I have time management issues most likely linked to/amplified by my autism and anxiety, so I have to work around distractions on the internet and at home but if you can overcome that hurdle, you'll strive here. Students are not expected to use their camera at all, however it is expected that you use your mic from time to time and have it readily available. The mic rules differ from teacher to teacher! otherwise, students use the chatbox feature that is available in-lesson. Overall, a great fit for me personally and many others. Worth looking into.
this distance education school is pretty good for a student who still needs a schedule to their classes, but can't go to a face-to-face school. most students don't cause any harm, but teachers tend to not understand things like medical conditions.
you're watched like a hawk in chat; you can't talk to another student privately without a teacher seeing.
socialisation with peers outside of class is near impossible unless you break the school's rules; your only chance for social interactions are at events or in clubs.
events are sparse and oftentimes expensive; travel to said events is your responsibility if you don't live anywhere near the school.
overall it's alright, it's a nice break from how face-to-face schools treated me.
(ratings are obviously directed towards face-to-face schools, so don't mind the environment and food ratings, they're under your control)
