Hi there! I’m a student at Canley Vale Highschool and have been studying there since 2020.
Learning at Canley Vale Highschool can be considered as “fun” if you have an engaging and interesting teacher and if you have close friends in your class, otherwise, not so much. Courses are pretty easy to understand and learn if you actually attempt to do your work and hand in your assessments/assignments.
Teachers and Staff are really sweet, informative and kind. They actually help develop your skills in the subjects you want to improve on and are very encouraging. However, there are some teachers and office staffs that do abuse their power on the students. (Wont go into further detail for the school’s rep)
The way they handle students wellbeing and mental health is great!! I was scared of reaching out to the school’s counsellor until year 8 because of primary school trauma but they were really nice and welcoming :)
Their way with handling bullying though is poor and this is well known amongst Canley Vale students but the school brushes it under a rug because they don’t want to be known as a bad school. Even though, I must say, they still have more opportunities to improve and develop.
The school’s safety and security is top-notch. The only time we had a serious lockdown was a year ago where grown men where trying to break into the school but the school handled that quickly and it wasn’t really that serious.
Aside from the amount of gum stuck and amount of graffiti on furnitures, chairs and walls onto the bottom of the tables, the classrooms are pretty clean and decorative with informative and educational posters. The classrooms are also pretty spacious and furniture is nicely laid out.
What’s appalling is that the outside of the classrooms are more cleaner than the classrooms despite the school grounds already being dirtied with trash and old furniture. There is barely any space to sit during recess and lunch instead of on the floor, you’d be lucky enough if there wasn’t anyone who took your table before you did.
The food at the canteen is really expensive and unaffordable despite not tasting that good and selling reheated meals. I’ve bought some foods at the canteen to try them before but they either end up being too cold, soggy or just doesn’t taste that good. The prices aren’t cheap at all, $7.50 for a burger or a wrap. The only good food at the canteen is the pre-packaged bags of chips, the food in the freezer, the bowl of fruit salad that’s at least $5.50 and the pre-packaged drinks. Unless you’re prepared for expensive meals that taste bland and mid, I suggest you bring your own food.
The school is pretty up to date with it’s information. Assemblys are hold almost every week for any information that needs to be addressed. School’s information are also updated on the parents sentral for any further informations or informations that have already been stated at the Assemblys held.
The school’s activities are alright. We don’t really go on much excursions unless it’s one of your electives or sports events. However the school does provide a lot of incursions and in school workshops for students wellbeing and mental health. Im pretty sure my grade didn’t really get to go on a lot of excursions due to covid however a lot of grades got to go before us so it’s mostly likely to do with covid-19. Our school also does a lot of mufti-days where students get to dress up and cosplay as their favourite characters and it’s so fun to see people’s interests and the diversity amongst all of the other students in the school. We all end up having a great time taking pictures with friends and awing over other students costumes.
Overall, the school is pretty average but it still provides you enough education and wellbeing workshops to keep your life in highschool together. I admit the school has a lot to improve on but it’s better than a lot of school’s I know.
