Only a few bad things, most things are really good

i have gone too ccas since pre kindy and i honestly haven’t had many problems with it, the main thing that i dislike is how some things are marked, especially pdhpe and english. Once you get to grade 9 the PDHPE classes get streamed and you are put in a class with people ‘your level’ although these streamed classes are never very accurate. You would expect that people in the lower class would receive higher marks than before since they are being marked against other people their level but the marks everyone receives are purely based off how they’ve done in previous years and which class they are in because there is a marking bracket which prevents you from getting a high mark even if you are incredible and the sport being played. The other thing that I don’t like about their marking is how English is marked. Everyone knows that English is already a very opinionated subject as the only way to get a good mark is to write something that the person marking it likes. I have had some teachers who give students the marks they deserve, based on how much effort they have seen be put into it as well as how effective and interesting it is, but there are some teachers that mark purely on if they like how it’s been done or if they like the topic you have written about. There are many other things that i do love about ccas such as the range of electives to choose from, the sports equipment/oval, how we do different activities for sport such as bowling, gymnastics, swimming, ice skating, archery and more. i only love the canteen as it’s healthy and accommodating although due to inflation the prices have recently gotten a lot higher and are ridiculously expensive now. overall i think ccas is a great school and the minor issues that it does have are pretty much nothing compared to the great things this school offers.

Central Coast Adventist School

*NOTICE: THIS REVIEW IS PURELY ABOUT THE SECONDARY SCHOOL*

Don’t get me wrong, it’s a good school, but there’s a lot of places where it falls off. A good school should include many things that can both benefit the students, and the staff, as well as the atmosphere as a whole. But… Central Coast Adventist School doesn’t really hit that mark.

The school may seem interesting and rather academic but many subjects/electives are actually not included within the school’s curriculum, so if you’re wishing to get a broad education, there isn’t the place to go. Lots of other schools have a really nice and big variety of choices for you to interest yourself within but CCAS just does not offer that.

On top of that, the school does not use their money well. Whether they put it into unnecessarily large projects like an expanded administration building or sporting events, there is no real beneficial funding towards a student’s academic journey.

Some classes are also quite silly and unhelpful. Some teachers, whether they follow the curriculum or not, just don’t get the job done. They may be slacking off a lot of class, or be constantly informal, or even just explain things so unclearly that all the students won’t get higher than a B grade.

A big overlooked topic about some schools is their canteen or food services, and when it comes to CCAS, it’s definitely a strong suit. The kitchen staff are always kind and friendly and always make nice, nutritious and delightful foods for the students to enjoy, with a wide range of dietary options such as vegetarian or gluten-free as well!

HSC above average scores are quite low for this school, and I believe the classes are highly to blame, more funding needs to be put into the academic education of the students and not towards silly side events. Though don’t get confused, these events are nice, but they do not rule out the necessity of youth education which is seeming less and less important as every year passes.

One thing that this school does flourish in, is socialism. It’s evident that many students and staff can get along well and that’s a genuinely great thing about the school, so it’s not hard to get along and get things done as a team, especially when many tasks are created that way.

A big thing about schools is their guarantee of safety and security, and well when it comes to CCAS, it’s quite simple, the school is pretty well with their hygiene and safety, so that’s definitely another positive factor.

Ultimately, there are quite a few positive and negative factors that affect this school, which is why I’d rate it average. If you’re looking for a place with good education and possible academic achievements, not the place to go. But if you’re looking for a simple school, where you can learn the basics of life and education, as well as having an decently enjoyable and social life, well, I guess this place would be alright for you.

Thank you for reading! :) -C
