Fantastic Experience at CHS!

My child is in their final year at CHS and it has been a very positive experience!
Like every school, it's not perfect, however the improvement that has happened and will continue to happen under the current administration, is amazing!

I have found all staff have been welcoming and helpful when I have encountered them on my visits to the school. I always get a smile and a hello. Special mention to the office staff who so kindly offer my child fruit from the bowl whilst they are waiting to be picked up, often times cutting it too! Thanks ladies!

Whenever we have had concerns, the response was fairly swift and proactive. Likewise when something has happened at school, we were contacted that day to discuss the matter. Sometimes communication can be a little late in regards to excursions etc, but that hasn't impacted on our experience with the school.

My child is in the special ed. unit, and I cannot fault the efforts of any of the teachers and SLSO's. They are skilled at providing appropriate learning styles and opportunities both in the classroom and with community access. My child has always felt safe and has enjoyed school life at CHS.

I am part of the school's P&C and I have really enjoyed the inclusive parents and staff that attend. My favourite part of the meeting is the Principal's Report. It's never a 'quick' report and that's because there is so much happening within the school that there is always lot's to talk about.

Although my review is mainly based on my experience with a child in the unit, friends of mine have children in mainstream classes and they are just as happy with the school as I am.

If you have any doubts about choosing CHS as your child's place of learning, I urge you to call the school and make a time to visit, and I also urge you to attend a couple of P&C meetings, as this is where you get all the information as to what is happening within the school and you can make an informed decision.

From a parent and child that will be sad to leave CHS at the end of the year. :)

Hit or Miss

Toilets are locked in between classes, and it takes a good 10 minutes into breaks before they're unlocked. They then proceed to only let about 2 people in at a time, and sort of patrol it like it's prison because they can't get a bunch of idiots to stop vaping. They care far more about attendance than your health- god forbid you need a mental health day, because they will HUNT YOU DOWN, then proceed to make you feel guilty for needing a break. They're overbearing, and often it often feels as if they overstep their boundaries when it comes to school life and personal life and it really rubbed me the wrong way. Most of the teachers are lovley, and I've only got positive things to say about them and the support they offer, however once again there were a few instances in which certain staff (particularly SLSO's) were exceptionally overbearing and just couldn't take a hint.

My mental health improved a lot more after I left the school to do a trade, but that's just my experience. I know plenty of people from my year group who finished year 12, and really only had positive experiences during their time here so I suppose it's circumstantial.

My story

Now I was happy to with this school for a little while but when I had some issues happen mentally they didn’t seem to help me like I wanted them to they tried to keep me there when I needed help asap I eventually got the help but they don’t care as much as you would expect they push you to stay at school but I needed to go home a lot and I was not allowed some times the classes were Alright but some teachers were really eh to me like I needed to leave class due to medication issues and she wasn’t letting me it’s very hard when it comes to stuff like that I skipped school a lot cause I was mentally unwell and they didn’t seem to help
