The school prides themself on making everyone feel equal and included and supported and heard, yet isn't backwards in coming forwards about telling students you are getting bullied because of the way you look and the way you present yourself. It is a lot of appearances and if anything, some of the head of years make a point of singling girls out and criticising them for their appearance and their weight, which is not acceptable at all.
The Guidance Officer is a timid little thing that really lacks confidence, experience and knowledge. Multiple parents have been in situations where the Guidance Officer has dealt with the situation inappropriately. That person seems to lack awareness and insight into some really serious issues.
There is a lot of bullying at this school, without a doubt. Verbal and physical threats being made within the school grounds and even with a parent within the grounds whilst it is happening, we were sent offsite to the police to have them deal with it, only to be told by police it was the school's responsibility because it happened on the school grounds during school time. The Guidance Officer really does not understand these processes at all.
There is definitely substance use in toilets and on school grounds.
If the school put as much effort into sorting out the drug and bullying situation as they put into the uniforms and trying to look like private schools, it may actually be a half decent school. I think their practices are counterproductive and if you bully a child and repeatedly tell them they bring bullying on themselves, you aren't going to engage that child in any learning, let alone if they require extra help. I think once they realise and understand they are a state school and not a private school and get knocked down a peg or two, the environment might change. But until then, not a school i would recommend.
I was hoping for support and understanding for my child who was having difficulty reconnecting with learning potential. Sadly to say my child was excluded shortly after. My child now attends Mitchelton and surprisingly, with the care of school staff has again found learning desire and achieved results reflective of her abilities. Maybe it was forsight by the school? My grading of experience was based on a short stay.
look if you live close to the area and are looking for a government school this is an okay choice. if we’re talking uniform theyre a bit over the top but so are almost all australian schools that wear uniforms. theres a fair bit of subject choices (only recently),clubs, leadership roles and pathway options for seniors however this school needs some work. some staff are great, some are not. 70% of students ‘abuse substances’ in the bathrooms, oval, in class. Overall not amazingly mindblowing.
Teachers care so much about what socks you wear and don’t mind shaming you for personal things. They don’t care about their students wellbeing at all. Literally couldn’t care less. Students are addicts. Lots of bullying, fights, police and ambulance being called is a weekly thing. Buildings are falling apart. Safety doesn't exist. Prices are over the top.
