Current year 12 student review

been here since year 7 and am in year 12 at the moment. Overall atmosphere is relatively nice where we’re always encouraged to do our best. There’s a lot of opportunities around for us including clubs, fundraising events, camps, etc to learn more about ourselves and the people around us which helps us value our connections.
However a lot of things need to improved including:
- school uniform- I get that we have to maintain a “positive” image but sometimes staff at huntingtower seem to be more interested in the length of our skirts more than how we are managing our heavy workloads. Personally I was told to fix my own hem over the weekend where I had so many assignments I had to complete. My father doesn’t know how to sew and my mother works full time so getting my parents to fix it wasn’t an option. I asked for extra time to fix my hem and I was not given any, making my weekend very stressful. Other times is when for our year 12 jackets, ours arrived before school started but we were not allowed to have them until week 5 despite how normally other schools get them as soon as possible. We were told in order to get them we’d have to “earn” them (we also designed them) by being on our best behaviour in terms of uniform which is somewhat understandable but goes to show that they heavily care about our uniform appearance.
- actual education- most teachers are nice and a few are amazing. Id just like to say new teachers should ask their class for feedback in terms of the value we get out of class and what methods of learning best work for everyone. Maths department is questionable.
- support- huntingtower does offer student counselling but majority of the times, students are afraid to ask for help because we think that our issues are too small or too normal. Not sure how this can be fixed though

Overall, there’s a lot of facilities and opportunities available. In my opinion the thing that makes us achieve high in VCE is that our cohort is very studious and we push each-other to achieve excellence
