Former student
This school is horrible now I wonder why people don’t wanna go, the teaching is horrible so are the students, it’s mentally draining and exhausting to think about going to this school, there is no help and nothing for the aboriginal girls to do it’s only for boys and they get rewarded by going away, what does that teach them, also I have been harassed and bullied at this and nothing has been done about it, we have contacted the school but still have had nothing done about it, fights everyday, people sent to hospital and STILL nothing done about it, this has to stop!!!
I have attended KHS since year 7 and I am currently in year 12. I’ll start off with the positives. The CAPA (creative and performing arts) at the school are quite good for a public high school, especially the productions and many of the teachers are really nice. There are also plenty of opportunities within the school such as sporting and performance as well as awesome excursions like the senior CAPA excursion. Shoutout to Mrs Fitz for being an awesome careers advisor. The learning support staff are also great. Unfortunately some teachers and the current principal suck and the students can be extremely violent. There are fights everyday. The school is also falling apart with many areas constantly under construction. Many students at the school also partake in illicit drugs such as vapes and weed in school and have sex on school property. As a former member of the SRC and a current member of Senior Leadership, they don’t take into account what we say and just do what they want which included taking away the production budget for new grass. The wellbeing also had been cut down so it is now harder to access mental health help within the school which sucks as I’m about to do my HSC trials and I can’t talk to wellbeing about it. I will say that the school has improved since I started but it still has a very long way to go before it is even considered a good school but because it is regional the government won’t do much to help.
The teachers are nothing but there for the money, treat us students like worthless toddlers expect you to learn something when they don’t put in the effort to teach you. The safety of the school is beyond a joke everything is broken the second story pathways are shut off to access because the floor is cracking. Overall the students fight everyday and teacher walk away and say “I don’t get paid enough for this” 1. We students don’t get paid at all to come here and deal with this 2. The teachers make it so much more worse 3. Mentally draining day in day out
This school is a violent mess. Fights happen every other day and teachers do almost nothing to prevent or stop them. But what’s even worse is the higher up, like the principals and deputies. These people do not care for the betterment of the school or the wellbeing of their students, they care about making the school appear better than it actually is. I was physically assaulted last week at this school, I was sent to the hospital because of this and the girl who did this to me did not receive any punishment.
