As a student at this school, I wish I could say my experience has been entirely positive, but unfortunately, that hasn’t been the case. My friends and I, who are Asian, have faced racism from some of our classmates, and it has made school feel less like a safe space and more like a place where we have to constantly be on guard. From offensive actions to being excluded or treated differently, these experiences have been painful and disappointing.
Additionally, one of our friends, who is part of the LGBTQ+ community, has also been targeted with bullying. Instead of feeling supported, he often feels isolated because of the way some students treat him just for being himself.
What’s most frustrating is that when we tried to report these issues, the response was either slow or not taken seriously enough. Schools are supposed to be places of learning, growth, and acceptance, but when discrimination is ignored or brushed aside, it sends the message that these behaviors are okay.
That being said, there are also amazing teachers and kind students here who do their best to create a welcoming environment. But real change needs to happen—not just from individual acts of kindness, but from the school itself enforcing stricter policies against bullying and discrimination. No student should feel unwelcome because of their race, culture, or identity.
I hope the school takes real steps to make sure that future students from other countries don’t have to go through the same struggles. Everyone deserves to feel safe and respected in their own school.
