If you had asked me three or more years ago I couldn’t have loved it more.
Unfortunately the principal changed and with that I don’t believe it lives up to the name of being a Grammar school anymore.
I had three children attend the school, two of which did there HSC at the school. The third child I have pulled out of the school because since the new principal came the school has gone down hill in standard.
Majority of the new teachers employed in the last two years arnt worth the fees we pay. Not what I would expect for the money. The teachers employed prior to the new principal I must say majority of them are great and go above and beyond. What you would expect.
After going to the Hills Grammar school for six years and International school before that as an expat I feel disappointed and disgusted that living in an area like Kenthurst and Dural that the Grammar school that used to be so great, so enriching and a real community feel has now gone downhill so much.
There is so much bullying and violence at the school now. It was never like that in past years . Last year students smashed up there common room several times . They don’t teach respect to these children they just turn a blind eye . It was never violent years ago as students had respect and manners and it’s just getting worse now, the last two years especially.
The principal will talk the talk about how amazing the school is and how wonderful she is etc etc etc but in reality it just isn’t true.
Until they get another principal I would save your money and actually go to another school that has good values and morals and not just how much money they can make from the parents .
Think of your child’s future and wellbeing .
As in many cases it’s the private schools that are the worst for bullying and poor behaviour …
Not what you would expect or want after spending so much money …
Like the rest of the Australian school system it is poorly run with ridiculous, outrageous rules and regulations such as uniform, house pride and worst of all, the locker situation which requires students to put bags in lockers despite the school having one of the biggest campuses in the state making it impossible and impractible to bring appropriate materials to lessons.
The school also decides to experiment with the ridiculous S, G and H systems. Where students are divided into classes not based off their preference. But off of assesment results, and even if you do get good results they just decide not to move you up because the better class is full, which is absolutely ridiculous and has frankly screwed over part of my education. It also has the great trait of discouraging, or hell borderline prohibiting people in say the S class from doing maths advanced/physics, which will stop you from getting into certain professions or institutions after finishing school.
Why are these classes bad? Well just ask me, one of the hills S students who ended with a teacher who spoke to us all like we were 3 year olds, making us sing songs about times tables. Somehow I crawled my way our of that trash class and saw how much of a disadvantage the kids in that class are at compared to the higher classes.
I cant be bothered to contribute any more of my brains little energy to such a pathetic excuse of a private school which my family has worked their butts off to pay for only for it to be completely trash;
I see this school as a means to the end and nothing more, Karen Yager the principal if you are reading this, stop taking this school so seriously, stop trying to be so different and stop trying to make this school something it isn’t, and never will be: A highly competant private school, that is something you don’t have the funds or the care to do due to the obvious neglect of students concerns, why not listen to one student and maybe just make life less hard on us and give us an actual shot at a good education.
Lastly, you may be wondering why I have provided 0 ways to improve the school, well the way I see it if you’ve decided to ignore the SRC and everything students have suggested and put funding towards time and effort wasting BS like social entrepreneurship or passion projects, then you dont even deserve the crappy suggestions of a HS student. Bye!
